On Tuesday (10/15), the Palestinian Ministry of Education announced the results of the high school exams, or tawjihi, for students in the Gaza Strip born in 2006. These exams were held online for the first time amid difficult circumstances caused by war and widespread destruction in the region. A total of 26,000 students took the exams after a two-year delay due to Israeli military aggression.

Palestinian Minister of Education and Higher Education Amjad Barham called the implementation of these electronic exams a historic step and a difficult challenge for the students. He emphasized that the children of Gaza showed remarkable resilience despite facing many obstacles such as interrupted internet access, displacement, hunger, and power outages. In fact, some students lost family members due to the war.

As a form of appreciation for the students' enthusiasm, the Ministry named this year's batch “Fuj al-Finiq” or the Phoenix Batch, which symbolizes the rebirth of hope from the ruins of destruction. In its official statement, the ministry wrote, “From the ruins, spirit and ideals are reborn.”

The ministry also plans to continue administering the second stage of exams for students born in 2007, with approximately 31,000 participants. In addition, the third stage of exams, or regular tawjihi, will begin on November 24, specifically for Gaza students who are currently in Egypt and 22 other countries.

Over the past two years, the war in Gaza has caused tens of thousands of students to delay their graduation. Official data shows that more than 70,000 students born in 2006 and 2007 were unable to take the exams due to the destruction and prolonged blockade. Tragically, around 4,000 students were reported killed in the war, while another 4,000 were forced to continue their exams outside the Gaza Strip.
