At least 20 Palestinians were killed in a series of airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip on Sunday (October 19, 2025), despite the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Medical sources reported that the attacks hit various areas in central and northern Gaza, causing numerous casualties and injuries among civilians.

In the city of Al-Zawayda, an airstrike on a coffee shop in a residential area killed five people and injured several others. Another attack targeted the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, killing four people, including children, and injuring 13 others. Two Palestinians were also killed near the Al-Ahli Club in the same camp, while three more were reported dead in a separate attack nearby.

Israeli airstrikes also reportedly struck an area near Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, killing two people. In the Bureij refugee camp, four people were killed in an attack on a house, while another strike west of Khan Younis wounded two others. Anadolu correspondents described the Israeli bombardment east of Khan Younis as a “belt of fire” due to its intensity.

The latest wave of attacks followed Israeli strikes on Rafah in southern Gaza, which the military claimed were in retaliation for an alleged anti-tank rocket attack on its troops. However, Hamas denied the accusations and reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement. Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee warned Palestinians to stay west of the “yellow line,” the boundary vacated by Israeli forces under the ceasefire deal.

The ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas was reached on October 8, 2025, as part of a phased plan mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump. The plan includes the release of hostages, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the establishment of a new government without Hamas. Since the major conflict erupted in October 2023, Gaza’s Ministry of Health has recorded over 68,200 deaths and more than 170,200 injuries from Israeli attacks.
