Global Sumud Flotilla Approaches Gaza, Humanitarian Hope Breaks Through 18 Years of Israeli Blockade

A humanitarian aid fleet sailing towards the Gaza Strip on Thursday (9/25/2025) reported that they are now 995 kilometers from the Palestinian coast. The fleet aims to challenge the Israeli blockade that has been in place for 18 years.

The day before, organizers revealed that there had been 12 explosions on nine ships in the fleet after interference from drones in international waters. Although the perpetrators were not identified, this incident occurred amid threats from Israel that it would block the mission. To date, Israel has not issued an official response.

Arab Lawyers Union representative Abdelhaq Benqadi stated that the legal team is preparing to file a report with the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing Israel of committing “war crimes at sea.” Israel itself has a long history of intercepting ships to Gaza, even seizing and deporting activists, which is often criticized as a form of piracy.

This aid flotilla consists of nearly 50 ships carrying humanitarian supplies, including medical aid, and is accompanied by more than 500 activists from various countries. This mission is the largest aid voyage to Gaza in nearly two decades.

Approximately 2.4 million Gazans have been living under Israeli blockade since 2007, with conditions worsening due to military aggression since October 2023 that has killed more than 65,400 people. A recent UN report even concluded that Israel has committed acts of genocide, reinforcing global condemnation of Tel Aviv's military and blockade policies.
