United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned Israel's latest airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which killed many civilians, including children. Through his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, Guterres expressed his “deep condemnation” of the civilian deaths caused by the attack and emphasized that such actions cannot be justified in the midst of a ceasefire that is supposed to maintain peace.

Guterres also condemned all actions that could weaken the ceasefire and endanger civilian lives. He stressed the importance of all parties complying with the agreed ceasefire agreement and avoiding measures that could worsen the humanitarian situation in Gaza. According to him, any attacks that cause civilian casualties or hinder humanitarian operations must be stopped.

In his statement, Guterres expressed his appreciation to Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States for their diplomatic efforts to maintain peace. He emphasized that the UN, together with its international partners, continues to increase its presence in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid to communities affected by the war.

The statement was made after Israeli airstrikes since Tuesday night killed more than 100 Palestinians, including 46 children, and wounded at least 253 others. In fact, a ceasefire had been in effect since October 10. Data from the Gaza Ministry of Health shows that since the ceasefire began, a total of 211 people have been killed and 597 others wounded as a result of continued Israeli attacks.

Since the outbreak of the conflict in October 2023, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed more than 68,600 people, mostly women and children, and injured more than 170,600 others. These figures show the enormous humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict, despite various peace efforts by the international community.
